Salient Stills

Salient Stills owns a major piece of intellectual property, an image processing algorithm developed by the company' founder Laura Teodosio. The company was founded to discover profitable ways to exploit this algorithm, which composes data from a range of video frames into an enhanced still image.

I joined the company just as it was trying to discover products that it could build.

First, I designed and developed front-end application for the proprietary video image processing algorithms developed by Salient Stills. Implementation was in Visual C++ using MFC.

Then a specific application of the algorithm was selected: a specialized video workstation product for newspaper industry that prepared enhanced still images from video. I participated in user research, interviewing newspaper personnel. I designed the initial version of the user interface and presented the design using Freehand drawings and Director movies. I implemented user interface in Java using Swing. An on-line demo of the current version of this application is available.
