Curl Corporation

Curl Corporation proposes to replace current web content languages -- HTML, javascript, Flash, Java -- with the Curl Content Language. The technical argument that Curl Corporation makes is that their single language, which can be used to specify text formats, scripts, interactive 2-D and 3-D graphics, and object oriented programs, is a better solution for building web applications.

At Curl I acted as usability resource for this company that of 140. Responsible for all aspects of user experience for Curl. This included Surge, the plug-in that complies and runs Curl content, Surge Lab, the development environment for the Curl language, and the Curl web site. I also designed and evaluated the user experience of demonstration programs and custom web applications. I supervised and advised junior product designer who conducted usability tests and redesigned products and I adevised graphic artists on artwork needs, design criteria, and technical requirements

At Curl I worked at an enormous range of projects. My work for Curl was comprised of two categories of work: design of development tools for the Curl language and design of demonstrations of Curl.

The components of the development environment demanded straightforward designs that adhered to user expectations and platform standards.

Some of the demonstrations were prepared to attract customers and appear on the Curl web site. Others were prepared under tight time constraints in response to a request from a specific company interested in Curl. In general the demonstrations are designed with the aesthetics of the web and use a richer visual vocabulary
